According to CR, the railway passenger flow has been growing continuously from January to November this year. The cumulative number of passengers transported nationwide reached 3.56 billion, a year-on-year increase of 126%. Daily passenger traffic, ticket sales, and other passenger transport indicators all reached historic highs, and railway transportation remained safe, stable, and orderly.

  The spokesperson of the passenger transport department of CR introduced that this year, with the acceleration of population mobility and strong demand for passenger transport, the railway passenger volume has continued to increase. The railway authority has fully leveraged the operational advantages of the high speed railway network, to coordinate the use of high speed railway and normal-speed railway transportation capacity. By utilizing new high speed railways such as Guiyang-Nanning High Speed Railway, Fuzhou-Xiamen-Zhangzhou High Speed Railway, Guangzhou-Shanwei High Speed Railway, Lijiang-Shangrila Railway, and Sichuan-Qinghai Railway, the railway sector analyzed passenger travel patterns accurately, optimized passenger train operation plans, to effectively increase capacity supply. Specifically, they carefully organized transportation during the Spring Festival, summer vacation, and holidays such as Qingming Festival, May Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day, meeting the travel needs of passengers. The average daily operation of passenger trains nationwide reached 9,638 trains, a year-on-year increase of 52%. At the same time, new initiatives have been launched, including implementing children’s discount tickets based on age, piloting online berth selection, online verification of student discount ticket qualifications, expanding the functionality of the 12306 platform’s information service, and online identity verification for foreign passports. The coverage of the Railway Travel QR Code has expanded to more than 3,500 sets of trains, and the number of routes with new ticket systems such as multi-ride tickets and commuter passes has increased to 57. The number of stations providing online meal booking services has increased to 80, 120 stations nationwide can achieve convenient transfers, and the public welfare “slow trains” have been operated continuously. These measures improved the travel experience for the people.

  The spokesperson emphasized that railway passenger flow continues to climb, setting new historical records, and demonstrating the vitality of China’s economic development and the growth potential of consumption. The railway authority will closely monitor passenger travel demands, increase capacity release, implement convenient and beneficial service measures, promote the quality and upgrade of passenger transport services, and create a safe, convenient, warm, and comfortable travel environment for passengers.
