In 2022, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter
referred to as “CHINA RAILWAY”) adhered to the guidance of Xi
Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, took the
important
instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on railway work as
the fundamental guiding principle, resolutely implemented the decisions and
deployments of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, took
welcoming the 20th CPC National Congress and studying, publicizing,
and implementing its guiding principles as the main line, adhered to the
general principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, efficiently
balanced
the COVID-19 prevention and control and the key railway tasks, balanced
development and security, vigorously and effectively responded to multiple risks and
challenges, and made new achievements in
promoting
the
high-quality railway development. The overall railway
safety was stable, vigorous and effective measures have been taken to
prevent and control
the COVID-19 epidemic and ensure smooth and
unimpeded
transport,
the construction tasks were successfully completed, the operations and management were further
regulated,
the reform and innovation continued to deepen, the self-reliance and strength
in railway science and technology continued to improve, and the achievements in
serving national strategies were
obvious.
I. Transport and Operation
Passenger transport. The passenger traffic volume of national
railways
registered 1.61 billion, showing a decrease of 923 million (36.4%) over the previous
year. The passenger turnover of national
railways
registered 657.176 billion passenger-kilometres, showing a decrease of
298.733 billion passenger-kilometres (31.3%) over the previous year.
Freight transport. The total freight traffic volume of national
railways
reached 3.903 billion tons, showing an increase of 177 million tons (4.8%) over the previous year,
in which the container traffic volume had an increase of 20.6% over the
previous year. The total freight turnover of national
railways
reached 3,266.836 billion ton-kilometres, showing an increase of 271.835
billion ton-kilometres (9.1%) over the previous year.
Total converted turnover. The total converted turnover of national
railways
reached 3,924.012 billion ton-kilometres, showing a decrease of 26.898 billion
ton-kilometres (0.7%) over the previous year.
Transport safety. Throughout the year, there was no devastating or major railway traffic accident, and the number of fatalities
caused by railway accidents decreased by 13.5% over the previous year.
II. Railway Construction
China’s railway
fixed-asset investment reached 710.9 billion yuan, with 4,100 kilometres of new
lines put into operation, including 2,082 kilometres of high-speed rail (HSR).
Railway network scale. China’s
total railway operating mileage reached 155,000 kilometres,
including 42,000
kilometres of HSR. Its railway network density stood at 161.1
km per 10,000 square kilometres, with a double-track rate of 59.6%
and an electrification rate of 73.8%. The western region
accounted for 63,000 kilometres of the total operating mileage.
The operating mileage of
national railways hit 134,000 kilometres, with a
double-track rate of 61.9%, and an electrification
rate of 75.6%.
Rolling stock. China railway
registered 22,100
sets of locomotives, including 7,800 sets of diesel locomotives (accounting for
35.5%
of the total) and 14,200
sets of electric locomotives (accounting for 64.5%
of the total)). China railway registered 77,000
passenger cars, including 4,194 standard EMUs (33,554
cars). China railway registered 997,000 wagons.
National railways registered 21,300
sets of
locomotives, including 7,400 sets of diesel locomotives (accounting for
34.8% of the total) and 13,900 sets
of electric
locomotives (accounting for 65.2% of the total).
National railways registered 75,000 passenger cars, including 4,048
standard EMUs (32,380 cars). National
railways
registered 910,000 wagons.
III. Standards and Technological Innovation
Development of key technical standards. CHINA RAILWAY
led and participated in the formulation of 18 railway industry standards
including Slab for Ballastless Track — CRTS III Slab-type Ballastless Track,
General Technical Specifications for CTCS-3 Train Control System, Technical Requirements for Railway Transport of
Out-of-Gauge Freight and Overweight Freight, and List of Dangerous Goods for Railway, all of which have been issued and
implemented.
CHINA RAILWAY organised the formulation of and
issued its 102
technical standards and metrological and calibration guidelines, including Wide-area Protection,
Measurement and Control System for Intelligent Traction Power Supply System,
Technical Specifications for Railway Integrated Video Surveillance System,
Wireless Transmit Device for EMU/DMU, Machine-made Sand for Railway
Concrete, Simplified and Unified Overhead Contact System Fittings in
Electrified Railway, and Technical Requirements for Access to Railway
Electronic Payment Platform.
Awards. The Design of a High-Speed Railway — Energy
(IRS 60682) of UIC, the formulation of which was led by CHINA RAILWAY, won the
2022 UIC Outstanding Publication Award.
The invention patent “Roll-core Traction Transformer”, jointly owned by CHINA RAILWAY,
Southwest Jiaotong University, and other organisations, won the Excellence Award of the 23rd China Patent
Award, and the invention patent “A Kind of Train Rail Detecting
System and Method” and the utility model patent “A Kind of Operating Device for
Pulling a Micro Level Gauge through PE Protective Tube with Steel Wire Rope” of China Academy of Railway
Sciences Corporation Limited (CARS), a subsidiary of
CHINA RAILWAY,
won the Patent Excellence Award.
For the achievements of other organisations in the railway
industry, the Technical Conditions for Supply of Rubber Windshield for
Rolling Stock (UIC IRS 80845) won the 2022 UIC Outstanding
Publication Award, seven patents, including “Method and Device for Controlling
Switch-Type Electro-Pneumatic Valve of Electric Multiple Unit”, won the patent silver awards, 13
patents, including “Meter Gauge Bogie” and “ A
Treating
Method of Freeze-Thaw Disaster Resistance of
Tunnel in Very Cold Region”, won the Patent Excellence Awards,
the “EMU Train (Blissful
Dragon and
Phoenix)” won the gold award of
appearance
design, and the “Train Head” won the silver award of
appearance
design.
IV. Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction
Comprehensive energy consumption. The energy consumption of national
railways
was equivalent to 15.1258
million
tons of standard coal, a decrease of 743,300 tons (4.7%) over the previous
year. The comprehensive energy consumption per unit of transport workload was
3.91 tons of standard coal/million converted ton-kilometres,
a decrease of 0.17 tons of standard coal/million converted ton-kilometres
(4.2%) over the previous year. The comprehensive energy consumption per unit of
transport workload of main business was 3.88 tons of
standard
coal/million converted ton-kilometres, a decrease of 0.16 tons of
standard
coal/million converted ton-kilometres (4.0%) over the previous year.
