Xi'an, September 4 -- The first 402 "HXD3D" high-power electric locomotive equipped with 5G equipment entered the locomotive servicing yard of Xi'an Locomotive Depot in the afternoon of September 4 and completed the autodump of 15.6GB locomotive video data within 90 seconds, marking the official application of the "5G+AI Intelligent Locomotive System" jointly developed by China Railway Xi'an Group Co., Ltd. and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. This is the first application of 5G technology to railway locomotives in the world. It is of great significance to improve the efficiency of locomotive data dump and accelerate the development of railway scientific and technological innovation.

In recent years, with the rising industrial transformation and technological revolution, 5G, AI and other new technologies have been widely applied in all walks of life. More and more HD video technologies have been applied to the field of railway traffic safety, including "video subsystem in locomotive on-board safety protection system (6A)". However, the slow video dump and the low efficiency and high cost of manual video analysis after dump impose restriction on the improvement of locomotive application efficiency.

In response to this situation, China Railway Xi'an Group Co., Ltd. has jointly promoted technological innovation with Huawei, innovatively applied Huawei's "AirFlash" 5G vehicle-ground high speed dump and AI intelligent analysis solution in daily locomotive operations, and realized the deep integration of "5G+AI" technology and railway locomotive operations. It is an ultra-wide, intelligent and safe solution, based on a new "end-to-end" architecture and applied with 5G advanced technologies such as new millimeter wave frequency band, multiple antennas, beamforming, etc.

It is reported that in the past, after the locomotive entered the depot, the locomotive driver took the locomotive video data back to the locomotive crew dispatching room with U-disk, and then the on-duty staff uploaded the U-disk data to the server through the 6A on-board video data dump system. For example, it will take 40 minutes to dump a 30GB locomotive video data for one operating routing, which is of low efficiency. However, with the "AirFlash" 5G vehicle-ground dump solution, high speed wireless communication at more than 1.5Gbps was realized between the locomotive and the ground, and 30GB video data was automatically dumped with about 3 minutes in the on-site test, which is 13 times higher than the previous dump efficiency and without manual intervention in the whole process.

According to reports, in terms of security, access security can be guaranteed with white list authentication and 4-way handshake protocol. Data is transmitted automatically and under encryption without any risk of virus infection, thus ensuring the data integrity and security in the entire dump process. The dumped data are integrated into Huawei's data service platform in cooperation with vast ecological partners. Combined with big data and artificial intelligence technology, the dumped data will be intelligently analyzed and automatically identified for problems and faults, which can greatly improve the analysis efficiency of dumped files. With AI technology, "all-routing" intelligent analysis is available for items involving more than ten kinds of operation behaviors of the locomotive crew, to effectively standardize the performance standards of locomotive crew.
