Indonesia: Two trains with a carbody of stainless
steel have entered into commercial operation between Jakarta and Surakarta.
Each train has a designed speed of 120 km/h and
consists of 12 coaches: seven executive and three luxury coaches, one dining,
and one power coach.
In March, the Indonesian national operator KAI
signed an IDR 2.5 trn ($161.6 mln) contract with PT Inka for the refurbishment
of 623 coaches between 2023 and 2026. An additional IDR 4 trn ($258.6 mln)
contract was signed with regional operator KCI for the delivery of 16 12-car
EMUs.
For the orders, PT Inka launched its second plant
in Banyuwangi after investing IDR 1.6 trn ($103.4 mln). The plant was conceived
as a joint venture with Stadler, but the Swiss manufacturer is not mentioned
anywhere now.
