At 14:03 Beijing time on April 13, train D887, the first international passenger train put in operation on the China-Laos Railway, crossed the border through the Friendship Tunnel. It was the first time that a Fuxing Electric Multiple Unit carried passengers abroad.

The train D887 departed from Kunming South Station at 8:08, met a “Lancang” multiple unit from Vientiane at Mohan Station, and arrived at Vientiane Station in the evening of the same day. The China-Laos Railway adequately fulfilled its responsibility as a railway of development, happiness, and friendship for the people of China and Laos.

“The China-Laos Railway is an inter-governmental cooperation project promoted by the top leaders of the two parties as well as two countries and an important strategic project for Laos to transform from a ‘land-locked state’ to a ‘land-linked state,’ which is implemented under the guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative.” Said the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Laos, Suanesavanh Vignaket, who spoke highly of the opening of international passenger trains on the China-Laos Railway and calling it a “historic moment that symbolizes friendly cooperation between China and Laos, and the building of the China-Laos Community of Destiny.”
